About Nicole
A Life in Words
From the time I was little until now I have always been good a creating elaborate stories in my head. This sounds fun in theory until you are in a biochemistry lecture and the only thing you can focus on is the story running around your head. Despite this, I did manage to get my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Purdue University.
I went on to work in the pharmaceutical industry right out of college. However, it always felt like something was missing. I have many hobbies including crocheting, cooking, game nights with friends, and of course reading. But there was still something that I needed.
Writing. It had played a big part in my life from an early age. I started writing stories at the age of ten though no one knew it. Being dyslexic, I was very self-conscious about people seeing my work. My rough drafts were well … rough to say the least. So, I wrote in secret and trashed my stories in the early stages.
I did contemplate becoming a writer in high school but that was quickly shot down. I was told that I couldn’t be a writer because I was dyslexic or that I needed to “pick a real job.” So, I dropped it. I stopped writing for a few years. I would write a small story or two, but I gave up on all my big ideas. That is until I stopped letting the negative words of others keep me down.
I decided to sit down and start writing. I haven't stopped since. After finishing my first novel I moved on to the next. Then I outlined two more and it just kept going. I still work in the pharmaceutical industry, but writing is my passion. It is what brings joy to my life and brings meaning into my days. So, I decided to share my stories with others. In hopes that they find their joy as well.
